Every frame holds something real.

You don't have to be ready. The good photographs usually arrive in the in-between - while someone is laughing at a joke you missed, while a child leans into a shoulder without being asked. I wait for those. What you'll keep is not a pose. It's the afternoon, the light, the way it actually felt to be together.

The studio

A camera is only ever an excuse to pay closer attention.

I work quietly. No long shot lists, no forced smiles held a beat too long. Mostly I follow you, and we talk, and somewhere in there the afternoon becomes the photographs. You'll forget the camera is there. That's usually when I find the frame worth keeping.
